Spike Chunsoft has confirmed Danganronpa 2x2, a reworked and expanded take on Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, will now launch in early 2027. This delay comes with new details on a mode dubbed 'Slayhem Mode', which promises an alternate storyline within the familiar setting. The game is slated for release across PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The game will feature two distinct modes upon release: an 'Original mode' that retells the 2012 story with updated visuals and presentation, and the new 'Slayhem Mode' presenting a "completely different storyline" with new victims, culprits, and methods of murder. The development team has also upgraded the in-game map from a side-scrolling view to a fully explorable 3D island environment.
Content and Presentation Upgrades
The 'Slayhem Mode' is reportedly about 20% larger than the 'Original mode', offering players a substantial new narrative to experience. Both modes will be available from the outset. In addition to the narrative and map changes, the game boasts newly illustrated character portraits, with the English voice cast from the original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair returning to reprise their roles for both new and updated scenes.

The visual overhaul extends to the game's world map, now rendered in a first-person perspective to enhance the immersion in the tropical setting, a departure from the side-scrolling map of the original release.
Development and Background
Spike Chunsoft producer Shohei Sakakibara conveyed an appreciation for fan patience, stating the extended development time is intended to "improve the final product," though no specific reasons for the delay were given. Series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, alongside developers from Too Kyo Games, Spike Chunsoft, and Gemdrops, is involved in the project. A more precise release date will be announced at a later time.
