Control Resonant PS5 Release Date Set for September 24, 2026

Control Resonant is coming to PS5 on September 24, 2026. This is the first new game in the Control series since 2021.

Control Resonant, the latest addition to the enigmatic world of Control, is slated for a September 24, 2026 release on PlayStation 5. The announcement, made during a Sony State of Play presentation, arrives alongside a fresh narrative trailer that places a significant spotlight on the character of Dylan Faden.

The narrative focus for Resonant will center on the complex relationship and shared history of siblings Jesse and Dylan Faden. Dylan, previously framed as an antagonist, is now presented as the "face of the enemy" in the context of this new chapter, suggesting a narrative arc that delves deeply into his perspective and role. The game's release in New Zealand is scheduled for September 25, 2026.

Enhanced Gameplay and Visuals Emerge

Coinciding with the Resonant announcement, a substantial update for Control Ultimate Edition has also been deployed, bringing notable technical improvements across various platforms. This patch introduces support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and 120Hz display output for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Refresh rate limitations have been unlocked for Quality and Performance modes on these consoles.

Further graphical enhancements include an improved Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) quality and the addition of HDR support. The SDR output has been upgraded to 10-bit from 8-bit, aiming to reduce visible color banding. For those on the PlayStation 5 Pro, support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) has been incorporated.

The update also addresses long-standing community-reported bugs and stability issues, including memory leaks that previously caused sudden frame rate drops during extended gameplay sessions. Projectile indicators for grenades, which were previously capped at 30 fps, have also been corrected.

A Look Back at Control's Foundation

Control, originally released in 2019, is a supernatural action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment. Players assume the role of Jesse Faden, who becomes the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, a secret agency tasked with investigating and containing paranormal phenomena. The game is set within the Oldest House, a brutalist skyscraper in New York City that serves as the Bureau's headquarters, and is known for its shifting architecture and otherworldly incursions. The gameplay blends third-person shooting with telekinetic abilities, allowing players to manipulate objects and the environment as weapons.
