Christina Koch, an astronaut aboard the recently concluded Artemis II mission, has returned to Earth and shared footage of her reunion with her dog, Sadie. The video, posted to social media, depicts Sadie's enthusiastic welcome as Koch entered her home after the roughly 10-day journey around the moon.
Koch, a mission specialist for Artemis II, made history as the first woman to travel around the moon during the mission. The crew safely returned to Earth on Friday, April 10, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. Koch's homecoming involved an immediate, effusive greeting from Sadie, characterized by tail wagging, jumping, and retrieval of a toy.
The astronaut spoke at a press conference in Houston on April 11, detailing crew interactions during the mission. Post-splashdown, the four astronauts underwent medical evaluations before returning to shore. Videos also show Koch and Sadie running together on a beach.

The Artemis II mission, which saw the crew travel an estimated 252,756 miles from Earth at its farthest point, is expected to provide data relevant to future lunar landing plans. The crew received a formal welcome home at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center on Saturday, April 11. Koch herself described the return, joking about her own excitement in the reunion and crediting Sadie with teaching her about emotional support.
This mission saw Koch, alongside Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, complete a significant lunar circumnavigation. Koch's participation marks a notable moment in space exploration, particularly for women's involvement. The Artemis II mission's success is positioned as a stepping stone for further lunar endeavors.
