Bapatla District Collector Vinod Kumar has announced plans to transform beaches in the Chinnaganjam mandal into major tourism hubs. The initiative, officially unveiled over the past day, aims to elevate these coastal stretches by modeling them after popular destinations like Suryalanka and Chirala beaches. The stated goals are to stimulate local economies and create new avenues for livelihood.
The district administration is focusing on developing Chinnaganjam and Vodarevu beaches as key attractions, drawing inspiration from existing successful models within the region.
Officials from multiple departments, including forest, fisheries, tourism, police, revenue, and fire services, have been involved in site inspections. The plan anticipates attracting a steady stream of visitors, particularly from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, especially during weekends.
Livelihood Initiatives and Environmental Measures
A significant aspect of the proposed development involves empowering local communities. Women belonging to self-help groups are slated to receive support through bank loans to establish small businesses. These enterprises could include the manufacturing of cloth bags and the operation of food stalls offering local delicacies such as traditional fish curry and fried fish.

In a move to enhance the environmental appeal of the beaches, a complete ban on plastic usage is set to take effect from June 1. This measure is presented as a dual benefit: supporting environmental cleanliness and further bolstering the market for cloth bags produced by local women's groups, who are expected to cater to the projected influx of 10,000 to 15,000 weekend visitors.

These developments in Chinnaganjam occur within a wider push by the Bapatla district administration to establish itself as a premier tourism destination. This vision aligns with a larger state-level objective, reportedly articulated by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, to develop the extensive nearly 900 km coastline of Andhra Pradesh.
Previous efforts in the region have included infrastructure improvements and the promotion of historical sites, such as the ancient trade center of Motupalli. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has also indicated a strategic shift towards adventure tourism, with projects like water sports and aerial activities being introduced at Panduranga Beach in Chirala.
