NEW DELHI - The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated its annual Class 10 and 12 examinations today, with more than 42 lakh students registered to appear across 7,800 examination centers nationwide. The examinations commenced on May 13, 2026, for Class 12, and Class 10 results were previously announced on April 15, 2026.

Recent years have seen the board grapple with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of Class 10 exams and postponement, and later cancellation, of Class 12 exams in 2021. This period underscored the fragility of traditional examination structures when confronted with unforeseen global events.
The board's administrative activities, as reflected in its public notices, indicate a continuous effort to manage the intricate process of candidate registration, data submission, and examination-related communications. Notices from September 2023, for instance, detail the extension of last dates for the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the 2023-24 academic year, alongside clarifications on section capacities and registration data.

For Class 10 mathematics, the board had previously introduced two separate examination papers. In 2020, adjustments were made to increase internal choices in core subjects and modify the English (Core) paper for Class 12 to mitigate excessive time pressure on students.
