The Wests Tigers' commanding 33-14 win over the Canberra Raiders at Leichhardt Oval has been overshadowed by a significant suspension handed to co-captain Api Koroisau. The NRL Match Review Committee (MRC) has charged Koroisau with a Grade 2 dangerous contact offence for a hip-drop tackle on Raiders player Noah Martin.
This charge carries a three-week suspension with an early guilty plea, a penalty that could extend to four weeks if he contests the decision and loses. This marks Koroisau's third subsequent offence this year, a factor that has led to the MRC's stern stance. The tackle, which occurred in the 25th minute of the match, resulted in Koroisau being sin-binned. He was also placed on report for a separate lifting tackle later in the game.
The timing of the suspension is particularly damaging, potentially ruling Koroisau out of contention for the upcoming State of Origin series. With the first Origin game looming, his absence from key club matches jeopardizes any potential selection. Fonua Pole, another Tigers player, also received a charge for a shoulder charge.

Koroisau's ban will see him miss upcoming fixtures against the Sharks, Storm, and Sea Eagles. However, there is a possibility that Koroisau may be able to serve two weeks of his suspension during the upcoming Pacific Bowl tournament, should Fiji qualify for matches in that competition. This would allow him to be available for Round 1 of the next season.
The Tigers' victory itself was marked by a strong performance, with the team currently sitting atop the NRL ladder. Despite the win, the loss of their key hooker presents a considerable challenge for the team moving forward. The Raiders, meanwhile, struggled to score after halftime, unable to capitalize on Koroisau's time in the sin-bin.
