ANDHRA PRADESH - Recent figures from the state's Intermediate examinations reveal a persistent trend: girls are achieving higher pass percentages than boys across both first and second-year levels. This pattern, observed in results released this week, points to a continued divergence in academic outcomes between genders in these critical examinations.
The Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) declared results indicating that for the first year, approximately 471,864 students appeared, with 361,526 passing, equating to a 77% overall pass rate. In contrast, for the second year, 393,757 general candidates sat for the exams, and 306,528 secured passes, yielding a 78.58% pass rate across all candidates.
Performance Breakdown
Details from various reports highlight this gender disparity. In the first year, girls achieved a pass rate of 81%, while boys registered 72%. For the second year, girl students saw a pass percentage of 86%, with boys achieving 80%.

Contextualizing the Trend
This isn't an isolated occurrence. Data from previous years, including April 2023, shows a similar pattern. In that period, first-year girls had a 65% pass rate against boys' 58%, and second-year girls achieved 75% compared to boys' 68%.
Reports from neighboring Telangana also echo this trend. For the recent Telangana Intermediate exams, the overall pass rate for the second year was 70.58%. Here too, girls outperformed boys, with 74.40% passing the first year and 78.65% passing the second year, compared to male students' 57.69% (first year) and 62.50% (second year).
Students seeking recounting or reverification can apply through the Board's website from April 13 to 20.
