Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh – A week-long National Service Scheme (NSS) special camp, coordinated by SRIT NSS and JNTU-A, culminated in Iruvendula village. The initiative saw volunteers undertaking a slate of activities, ostensibly for community upliftment, including surveys on household literacy, awareness campaigns on cyber safety, rainwater harvesting, self-employment, and women's welfare.*
The program, a joint effort with MYBharat, a Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports initiative, aimed to immerse youth in the realities of village life. A recurring theme highlighted was the push for a "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat" – translating to a "drug-free youth for a developed India."
Ms. Mamatha emphasized that NSS volunteers act as the social defense of the nation, playing a vital role in saving thousands of lives every year through voluntary blood donation and community service, while also promoting ethical and moral values among students.
Mr. Bisathi Bharath reportedly underscored MYBharat's role in offering avenues for youth participation in national development, urging active engagement with government schemes to reach rural populations.
Past Endeavors and Broad Objectives
The NSS special camping program is not a novel construct. Historically, its themes have revolved around pressing societal concerns.

The stated objectives of these camps pivot on fostering a direct encounter between young participants and the communities they serve, with an aspiration to effect tangible improvements. The current iteration appears to lean into sustainable development, with a specific, though vaguely defined, focus on watershed and wasteland development.
Other suggested activities often encompass:
Health Initiatives: Mass immunization drives, nutritional support programs (leveraging Home Science and medical students), provision of safe drinking water, child development initiatives, and health education, including AIDS awareness and basic healthcare.
A Different Instance
Separately, on November 25, 2025, another NSS special camp concluded at Chiyyedu ZP High School. This event saw the recognition of the RIPER NSS Unit 1 team for their social service and SDG awareness efforts. Kiran Sai and secretary Mahesh were noted for their roles in the camp's proceedings.
