Small Aircraft Plunges Downward, Claiming Five Lives En Route to Texas Tournament
A Cessna 421C aircraft, en route to a pickleball tournament, crashed late Thursday night in the Texas Hill Country. All five individuals aboard perished in the incident, which occurred near Wimberley, approximately 40 miles southwest of Austin. The occupants have been identified as members of the Amarillo Pickleball Club.
Federal authorities, specifically the FAA and NTSB, are spearheading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports indicate the plane's locator emergency device emitted a distress signal, and a second aircraft traveling alongside the downed plane lost contact with its pilot. Local officials confirmed the crash site was in a wooded area.

The crash occurred around 11:05 p.m. Thursday. Emergency crews remained at the scene into Friday morning for recovery efforts. The tournament scheduled for Friday was canceled, with plans to honor the deceased players. Some witnesses reported hearing a loud impact and feeling their homes shake, with one witness claiming the plane sounded "badly damaged" before impact. No indication of a mid-air collision has been reported. The plane was reportedly descending at high speed prior to the crash.
