Stenhousemuir has seized the top position in the William Hill League One standings, leveraging Inverness's participation in the Scottish Challenge Cup final. The team secured this advantage through a decisive 3-0 triumph over Hamilton. Inverness, set to compete in the cup final this Sunday, will find themselves two points adrift of the new league leaders upon their return to domestic fixtures.

The victory for Stenhousemuir was anchored by goals from Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Ross Taylor in the opening thirty minutes, establishing a commanding lead. Gregor Buchanan solidified the win with a third goal nine minutes into the second half. Meanwhile, Clyde, currently holding third place and trailing Stenhousemuir by twelve points, also achieved a win, defeating Stirling 3-1.

Further down the table, Elgin, positioned fourth, now trails Clyde by five points following their 2-1 loss to Forfar. In other matches, bottom-placed Edinburgh City secured a narrow 3-2 victory against Forfar. Ayrton Sonkur's 67th-minute goal gave Spartans a 1-0 win over Elgin City, extending their lead in the standings. Hamilton also gained ground, moving five points clear of bottom club Kelty Hearts thanks to Scott Robinson's early goal.

Inverness themselves have recently framed their league campaign with a 'cup final' mentality, as indicated by assistant manager Billy Mckay, emphasizing a focus on securing three points in every fixture to build momentum towards a title challenge. Despite this approach, Inverness has lost both league encounters against Stenhousemuir this season.

Historically, Stenhousemuir has experienced promotion successes, notably clinching the cinch League Two title on April 6, 2014, and the SWF League One trophy in May 2014, which marked their return to League One and ended a long wait for silverware at Ochilview Park.
