BALTIMORE SECURES LONG-SERVING DEFENSIVE END
The Baltimore Ravens are bringing back defensive lineman Calais Campbell on a one-year agreement, according to reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter. This move marks Campbell's return to the team where he previously played from 2020 to 2022. The impending season will be his 19th in the National Football League, a duration few players reach.
Campbell, who will turn 40 in September, demonstrated continued effectiveness last season with the Arizona Cardinals, logging 6.5 sacks and 33 pressures. His production in terms of snaps played also exceeded expectations, appearing in 643 plays, surpassing a benchmark set by the Cardinals organization. This return suggests the Ravens believe Campbell still possesses a valuable contribution to offer beyond mentorship.
The defensive end's storied career, which spans 18 seasons, has seen him achieve six Pro Bowl selections. His ability to maintain a high level of performance over an extended period is noteworthy. For example, he has recorded over 30 pressures in 16 of his seasons and at least five sacks in 15 of them.

The Ravens' defensive front for the upcoming season now includes a bolstered pass-rush contingent. Campbell's presence, alongside acquisitions like Trey Hendrickson and other players such as Odafe Oweh, Tavius Robinson, Mike Greene, and Nnamdi Madubuike – though Madubuike's availability is pending recovery from recent surgery – presents a deeper unit. The team's strategy appears focused on reinforcing its defensive capabilities.
Campbell’s lengthy tenure has cultivated a significant fanbase, extending beyond Baltimore to the broader NFL community. His reunion with the Ravens is a topic generating discussion and reaction across social media platforms. This signing occurs as the Ravens transition under new head coach Jesse Minter, who takes over from long-time coach John Harbaugh.
