RJ Day, son of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, has announced his commitment to play college football at Northwestern University. The three-star quarterback from St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio, chose the Wildcats over offers from Purdue and South Florida. His decision comes as Northwestern prepares for a season where they are projected to have Michigan State transfer Aidan Chiles as a senior starter.
Day secured his offer from Northwestern on April 29 and followed up with an official visit on May 4. His commitment signifies a choice to forge his own path in college athletics, separate from his father's prominent position within the Buckeyes' program. Notably, Ohio State itself did not extend a scholarship offer to RJ Day, a factor attributed to the team's already strong quarterback depth.

The young quarterback's choice places him within the Big Ten conference, setting up a potential future encounter with his father's team. Northwestern's offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, has prior connections with the Day family, having served as offensive coordinator at Ohio State when Ryan Day played quarterback at New Hampshire, and also held NFL coaching roles. Kelly has previously hired Day in coaching capacities at New Hampshire and in the NFL.
Day's junior season stats highlight his performance on the field, with 2,710 yards and 25 touchdowns, both figures marking single-season school records. He considered other programs, including Purdue and South Florida, which had remained actively involved in his recruitment. Syracuse and Cincinnati also extended scholarship offers.
