John Cartwright, the outgoing head coach of Hull FC, has publicly voiced feelings of being “betrayed and disrespected” following the club's announcement that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season. The declaration, made by Hull FC last week, appears to have caught Cartwright by surprise, with him stating that he has yet to receive a clear reason for the decision.
In an unusually candid press conference held ahead of the team's upcoming match against St Helens, Cartwright did not hold back. He confirmed that the club cancelled a training session on the Tuesday after informing the team of his impending departure. He also indicated that the situation was not a "mutual decision." The coach conveyed his expectation that an assistant from Warrington will take over the helm at the MKM Stadium following his exit.

"At the end of the day, the results pretty much come down to the coach; good results and you keep your job and bad results and you don't."
Cartwright stated that while he had asked for an explanation, he is "not one to stand back" when opinions differ. He expressed hope to sit down with someone at the club in the "not-too-distant future" to discuss the matter further. He also asserted his commitment to continuing his professional duties until his services are no longer required, despite the circumstances.
The 60-year-old Australian's tenure with Hull FC has been marked by a struggle for wins, a fact he acknowledges directly influences his position. Despite feeling the sting of what he perceives as disrespectful treatment, Cartwright insisted he would answer questions directly, indicating a readiness to confront challenging inquiries. The club’s announcement regarding his departure was made on April 7th.
