Film's Theatrical Ambitions Highlighted
Sunny Deol's upcoming film, ‘Gabru’, has had its release date shifted, now slated for May 8, 2026. This move marks a postponement from its originally announced March 13 slot. The decision appears to be a strategic one, aiming to avoid perceived box office competition.
The film, directed by Shashank Udapurkar, was initially considered for an Over-The-Top (OTT) release. However, Deol himself reportedly championed a full theatrical outing, believing the project deserved a cinema-hall premiere. This insistence underscores the actor's personal investment in ‘Gabru’, with reports suggesting he considers it a project "closest to his heart," touching upon themes of courage and resilience.
The new May 8 release date places ‘Gabru’ in direct contention with Ananya Panday and Lakshya's film, ‘Chand Mera Dil’, which is also expected on the same day. The postponement allows ‘Gabru’ to steer clear of what were described as "major March releases" and other films like ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ and ‘Toxic’.

Production and Project Details Emerge
Details surrounding the film’s production and other cast members remain somewhat indistinct. It is noted that Simran and Prit Kamani are also part of the cast. The film was reportedly at one point titled ‘Safar’ before being changed to ‘Gabru’.
Deol’s current professional landscape includes his recent success with ‘Border 2’. Looking ahead, he is also slated to appear in Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana’, a project that also features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.
Further promotional material, such as teasers and trailers for ‘Gabru’, has yet to be officially dated or released.
