WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE confirmed on Wednesday the apprehension of a 55-year-old man in Bradford. The arrest pertains to the murder of John Luper, a 57-year-old businessman, who was killed during a home invasion and robbery more than two decades ago, specifically in 2004. Forensic analysis has been cited as a key factor leading to this development.

The incident, which occurred at Mr. Luper's residence in an affluent Leeds suburb, involved a robbery where his wife, daughter, and their au pair were also restrained. Police were alerted to the scene at 1:45 AM. Despite efforts to revive him, Mr. Luper was pronounced dead at the location. A post-mortem examination indicated the cause of death was asphyxiation.

The arrested individual is currently in custody for questioning. Police investigations are ongoing, with detectives appealing for any information regarding individuals who might have shown interest in Mr. Luper or his business dealings around the time of the murder.

Background of the Case
John Luper was a notable figure in Leeds' business community. He held directorships in a clothing firm, a property leasing company, and served as a non-executive director for a sports and media group. The robbery at his home, a million-pound mansion, saw the perpetrators tie up his family upstairs with duct tape before Mr. Luper was discovered unconscious downstairs. The thieves subsequently fled the scene.

This arrest represents a potential breakthrough in a case that has remained unsolved for over 20 years, with the investigation team expressing a strong commitment to achieving justice for the victim and his family. The operation is being referred to as 'Operation Ashkirk'.
