ARANA HILLS, QLD – A 19-year-old man, currently hospitalized and in stable condition, is slated to appear in court via a bedside hearing following an incident on April 1st where he was shot by police. The confrontation, which police describe as an altercation, occurred during a welfare check at a property on Akebia Street. The young man faces multiple charges, including three counts of serious assault of a police officer whilst armed and one count of serious assault of a police officer performing function whilst armed.
The situation escalated when officers, responding to a call from the man's mother requesting mental health support, attempted to speak with him. It is understood that a taser was deployed during the encounter prior to police discharging their firearm, striking the man twice in the abdomen.
