Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia 76ers have severed ties with Daryl Morey, their president of basketball operations. The decision, confirmed by sources speaking to ESPN's Shams Charania, was reportedly made following a meeting between Morey and team owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer on Tuesday.
The franchise has decided to move in a new direction, ending Morey's six-year tenure at the helm of their basketball operations. Concurrently, head coach Nick Nurse will continue his duties, entering his fourth season with the organization.
Bob Myers, president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and formerly the lead executive for the Golden State Warriors, has been tasked with heading the search for Morey's successor. Myers will also assume oversight of the team's basketball department in the interim.
Morey's tenure with the 76ers, beginning six seasons ago, is marked by the team's consistent inability to advance beyond the second round of the NBA playoffs. This pattern persisted even after the team's recent elimination by the Knicks, a series that concluded with a sweep of the 76ers.

Morey, a prominent figure in the NBA known for his pioneering use of analytics and his role in founding the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, navigated significant player personnel challenges during his time in Philadelphia. These included managing the departures of stars like Ben Simmons and James Harden, executing trades in response to their trade demands. Despite a career .598 winning percentage across 19 seasons leading NBA teams and only one losing season, the 76ers under his administration failed to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
Under Coach Nurse, the 76ers have posted a .472 winning percentage, with a record of 116-130.
Morey previously held a position within the front office of the Boston Celtics.
