Philadelphia Completes Historic 3-1 Comeback Against Boston
The Philadelphia 76ers have etched their name in the NBA record books, completing a remarkable comeback from a 3-1 series deficit to vanquish the Boston Celtics in Game 7. This historic victory marks the 14th time in league history a team has overcome such a deficit in a best-of-seven series, culminating in a 109-100 win on Saturday night. The win also signifies the first time in 44 years the 76ers have bested the Celtics in a playoff series.
The triumph was largely powered by Joel Embiid, who returned from an appendectomy to deliver what is being called arguably his career-best playoff performance. Embiid posted 34 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists, carrying the team through the decisive game. He was not alone, however, as Tyrese Maxey also delivered a stellar performance with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists.

A Series Defined by Improbability
This Game 7 was the ninth instance the two franchises have met in a deciding seventh game, a league record. The Celtics, who had held a 3-1 series lead, entered the game with a seemingly insurmountable record, having been 32-0 in such situations. Just days prior, Boston had dominated Philadelphia in Game 4, leaving the Sixers looking listless.
Despite returning to play, Embiid finished the game with a visible limp, having sustained two knee impacts during the contest, one from an opponent and another from a teammate. This added a layer of physical toll to an already gruelling series.
What's Next
With this monumental victory, the 76ers advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they are slated to face the New York Knicks. The first game of that series is scheduled for Monday at Madison Square Garden. The series between the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors, are also concluding their first-round matchups on Sunday.
